I recently learned that my daughter is teaching my granddaughter that God isn’t real. At first I was shocked and even a little offended, given that I’ve devoted my life to spiritual pursuits. But after reflecting on it, I thought “you can’t fool kids.” Now I simply trust that my granddaughters will find their essence in their own way, regardless of what their mother says, just as I did and my daughter did. Until then I’ll dance my essence in their presence every day, just like you, beckoning the children to come along on wagon rides. Thank you for this insightful article!!

What you say is exactly true. I've noticed in the (rare) times that I have the opportunity to interact with children, that if I do so in a way that allows them the freedom of whether to like me or not, they'll be much more inclined to want to interact/hold a conversation. Adults "trying" to be liked by small children is cringey.
